How the Premier League table is decided
Points, then goal difference, then goals scored.
Every club plays 38 games - all nineteen rivals home and away. A win is three points, a draw is one, a defeat is nothing. Level on points and goal difference splits them; level on that too and it's goals scored. Head-to-head record, which decides places in some European leagues, does not come into it here.
What each position is worth
- 1st - champions.
- Top 4 - Champions League.
- 5th - has recently carried a Europa League place, though European allocation moves with cup winners and UEFA coefficients.
- 18th to 20th - relegated to the Championship.

How is the Premier League table decided?+
Points come first - three for a win, one for a draw, none for a defeat. If two clubs are level on points, goal difference separates them; if they are still level, goals scored does. Unlike some leagues, head-to-head record does not decide Premier League positions.
How many games does each club play?+
Thirty-eight - each of the twenty clubs plays every other club home and away. The predictor caps every club at 38 and shows a games-remaining count so a table can't drift into an impossible season.
How many points does it take to win the league or finish in the top four?+
Recent title races have typically been settled somewhere in the high 80s or low 90s, and the fourth Champions League place has often gone in the high 60s to low 70s. Around 35 to 40 points is the usual rule of thumb for safety from relegation - useful benchmarks to aim your table at, not guarantees.
Which places qualify for Europe, and which are relegated?+
The top four qualify for the Champions League and fifth place has recently carried a Europa League spot, though European allocation can shift with cup winners and UEFA coefficients. The bottom three - 18th, 19th and 20th - are relegated to the Championship.
