A golf pool is a game where everyone picks a lineup of golfers for a tournament - like the Masters or a weekly PGA Tour event - and scores points based on how those golfers finish. The best combined result wins the pool.

How it works

1

Create the pool

Pick a tournament - a major, a weekly PGA event, or your own field - then set how many golfers each player drafts and how scoring works. Live in under two minutes.

2

Share the link

Drop one link in the group chat or Slack. Players join in a tap with a display name. No accounts, nothing to download.

3

Pick and track

Everyone builds their lineup before the first tee time. Picks lock at the opening tee, we pull the live leaderboard, and every round is scored automatically. Best total wins.

Golf pool formats, rules & scoring

A golf pool turns any tournament into a game between friends, coworkers, or your whole club: everyone picks golfers, and you score based on where those golfers land on the leaderboard. There's no single "right" format - here are the ones people actually run, all of which Trofeo.live handles.

The common formats

  • Pick-your-golfers (fantasy pool). Each player drafts a set number of golfers - usually four to six - for one tournament. Add up their finishes and the best combined result wins. The classic Masters-office-pool format.
  • One-and-done (eliminator). Pick one golfer per event and you can't reuse them all season. Accumulate their earnings or points across the majors or the full Tour schedule - budgeting your stars is the whole game.
  • Salary-cap / draft. Every golfer has a price; build the best lineup you can under a fixed budget. Rewards finding value, not just picking the favorites.
  • Majors pool. Run any of the above just for the four majors - the Masters, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and The Open - and crown a season champion.

Scoring options

  • By finish position. Points or strokes based on where each golfer ends up - win, top 5, top 10, made cut.
  • By actual score. Use golfers' real strokes-to-par and total the lineup; lowest wins, just like golf itself.
  • Missed cuts. Decide upfront how a missed cut is handled - a fixed penalty, last-place strokes, or zero points. Set it once and it applies to everyone.

Tiebreakers

When two lineups finish level, settle it with a tiebreaker: your best single golfer's finish, total birdies, or a predicted winning score set before the event. Pick one and Trofeo.live applies it automatically.

Why run your golf pool on Trofeo.live

Most golf pools live and die in a spreadsheet. Someone collects everyone's picks, then spends Sunday night cross-referencing the leaderboard, fixing missed-cut math, and fielding "wait, what's my score?" texts. Trofeo.live runs it for you.

  • Auto-scored from the live leaderboard. Finishes are pulled in and scored automatically - no manual tallying, no missed-cut disputes.
  • Live standings. Everyone sees the running order the moment the leaderboard moves - all weekend, on any device.
  • Public proof. Good picks get gassed up, blow-ups get roasted. Every Sunday charge is screenshot-ready for the group chat.
  • No app, no logins for players. You set it up; they join from a link with a name. That's it.
  • Run it anywhere. A foursome, your club, or the whole office - same setup, your branding.

Set the format, share the link, and let the back nine do the talking.

FAQ

What is a golf pool?+

A golf pool is a game where each player picks golfers for a tournament and earns points or strokes based on how those golfers finish. It can be a one-off for a major like the Masters or a season-long contest across the PGA Tour. The best combined result wins the pool.

What golf pool formats can I run?+

All the common ones: a pick-your-golfers fantasy pool (draft four to six golfers for one event), a one-and-done eliminator (one golfer per event, no reusing them), a salary-cap draft, or a majors-only season. You choose the format and scoring when you create the pool.

How does scoring work, and what about missed cuts?+

You can score by finishing position (points for wins, top 5s, top 10s, made cuts) or by golfers' actual strokes to par. Missed cuts are configurable - a fixed penalty, last-place strokes, or zero - and Trofeo.live applies your choice to every entry automatically.

Can I run a pool for the Masters or another major?+

Yes. Golf pools are most popular for the majors - the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open - and Trofeo.live works for any of them, a weekly PGA Tour event, or a custom field you set yourself.

How many people can join?+

Running a golf pool is free for groups up to 50 players. Bigger pools and extra branding are available on paid plans, so it scales from a foursome to your whole company.

Can I run a golf pool for my office?+

Absolutely. A Masters or majors pool is one of the easiest ways to get a workplace engaged - share one link in Slack or Teams, everyone drafts their golfers, and the leaderboard fuels the trash talk all weekend. Free to set up and workplace-friendly.
