Draw your sweepstake

A Grand National sweepstake is an office draw: every horse in the race is assigned to a person at random, usually for a small kitty. If your horse wins or places, you take the pot - and, more importantly, the bragging rights.

How it works

1

Load the runners

Use the Grand National preset or paste your own list of horses. Change it in seconds when the final field is confirmed.

2

Draw to the group

One click deals every horse to your group at random - evenly, no favourites. Fewer than 40 people? Everyone just gets more than one.

3

Share the link

Drop one link in the group chat so everyone sees who drew what. Then watch the race and let the trash talk begin.

How a Grand National sweepstake works

A Grand National sweepstake is the simplest bit of fun in the office calendar: every runner in the race is drawn to a person at random. Everyone chips into a small kitty, and whoever draws the winning horse takes the pot - usually with something for second, third and fourth too.

The full field is 40 horses. If you've got 40 people, that's one each. Fewer than 40 - which is basically everyone - and you just deal the extras back round: with 10 people, everyone draws four horses; with 20, two each. The draw stays even and completely random, so no one can claim they were fixed with the no-hopers.

A common split for the kitty: winner takes the lion's share, with smaller cuts for placing (2nd, 3rd, 4th) so more of the group stays in it to the last fence. Keep it light - it's for bragging rights, not the bookies.

Non-runners happen. If a drawn horse is pulled before the off, most offices either redraw that slip or roll it into the placings pot - agree it up front and nobody grumbles on the day.

You can do all this with a printout and a hat. But it's faff, someone always loses their slip, and the draw is never quite as random as it should be. Doing it here takes ten seconds and everyone can see the result.

Why run it on Trofeo

It's free, it's instant, and the draw is genuinely random - no one's rigging the hat. There's nothing to print and nothing to download: load the field, draw, and share one link so the whole group sees who's on what. Same kit works for the Gold Cup, the Derby, a World Cup sweepstake or any list you can paste - so once your group's in, you're set for the whole calendar.

FAQ

How does a Grand National sweepstake work?+

Every horse in the race is drawn to a person at random. Everyone puts a little into a kitty, and whoever draws the winning horse takes the pot - usually with smaller amounts for the horses that place 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

How do you draw the horses fairly?+

Our sweepstake generator deals every horse to your group at random and evenly, so the draw can't be fixed and no one's stuck with all the no-hopers. Everyone sees the result on one shared link.

What if there are fewer than 40 people?+

No problem - that's the usual case. The extra horses are dealt back round so everyone gets more than one. Ten people means four horses each; twenty means two each. It stays even and random.

Is it free?+

Yes. The draw is completely free and needs no login. Any kitty is just cash between your group - we don't touch it.

What happens with non-runners?+

If a drawn horse is withdrawn before the race, most groups either redraw that slip or fold it into the placings pot. Agree which up front and there are no arguments on the day.

Can I use it for other races or events?+

Absolutely. Paste any list - the Gold Cup, the Derby, a World Cup or the Euros - and draw it the same way. It's a sweepstake generator for anything.
